Why Choose Pat Bourne?
Pat has the unique advantage of leveraging multi facets of her professional life into her coaching.
At the start of her career, almost 29 years ago, Pat was the sole employee for a rural electric cooperative with a defined service area. She worked with the Board of Directors to expand the organization services and their membership base in a variety of ways. Pat guided the cooperative through numerous mergers and broadened the scope of the operations through sound strategic planning. Today, that cooperative (EQUS) is the largest member-owned utility in Canada with a service area that spans 26 Alberta districts and counties, from northern Alberta to the U.S. border, with over 100 employees serving over 30,000 consumers.
Working under cooperative principles and achieving this level of successful growth gives Pat an understanding of the entrepreneurial process and she is passionate about helping other entrepreneurs as they venture into the business world.
In an industry that was traditionally male dominated, Pat drew on personal experiences and insights to establish herself as a credible and valuable executive. She recognizes first-hand the interesting and successful dynamics that can accrue with a diverse executive composition. She can assist organizations and executives of both genders to avoid the detrimental effects and perception of organizational ‘glass ceilings’.
Pat, as the CEO of EQUS, continuously led by example, developing EQUS executives through dedicated mentoring and coaching. She consistently used her leadership strength to move EQUS forward as a values-driven organization; making positive contributions for EQUS, the employees and the communities EQUS serves. Her vision, dedication and business strategy positioned EQUS as the ‘Electrical Provider of Choice in Rural Alberta.’ She believes that the link between an organization’s worth and true success is the values that an organization and its employees aspire to and she has experienced, with EQUS, the positive impact that a values-based environment contributes to employee confidence and business success.
Supplementing her industry reputation, in 2013 Pat received the Central Alberta Business Woman of the Year Award; recognizing her professional achievement and inspiration to other business women. In 2017, Pat was named Global’s Woman of Vision; an award that celebrates the accomplishments of outstanding Edmonton women—women who have implemented their passion and whose personal dedication and actions inspire others.
Pat states, “Coaching is a collaborative partnership between a coach and a willing individual. It enables increased capacity through a process of discovery, goal setting and specific action. It is accessed for the realization of extraordinary results and founded in a trust based relationship, connecting at the deep personal level of beliefs, values and vision.”
